Singapore Changi Airport remained the busiest airport in Southeast Asia with 3.48 million seats in May but capacity decreased by 2.9% compared to last year, according to British aviation firm OAG.

Kuala Lumpur International Airport in Malaysia ranked second with seat capacity of 3.23 million, up 1.1% year on year.

The airport in Sepang spans roughly 100 square kilometers, making it Southeast Asia’s largest airport by land area and a key hub for both domestic and international air travel.

Thailand’s Suvarnabhumi International Airport ranked third in May capacity with 2.98 million seats, down 3.7%.

Indonesia’s Soekarno-Hatta Airport claimed the fourth position with 2.9 million, down 4.9% while Ninoy Aquino International Airport in the Philippines ranked fifth with 2.8 million passengers, marking a 2.6% increase, the highest growth rate among the airports listed.

Ho Chi Minh City’s Tan Son Nhat Airport ranked sixth with 1.95 million, down 12%, followed by Hanoi’s Noi Bai Airport with 1.7 million, down 3.9%.

Don Mueang International Airport in Thailand claimed the 8th position with 1.51 million, down 5.2%.

Two Indonesian airports – I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport and Sultan Hasanuddin Airport, recorded a sharp drop of over 11% in capacity this month to 1.16 million to 972.000 seats, rounding out the top 10.

Overall capacity in the Southeast Asian market reduced by 3.1% compared to May 2025 to 48.1 million seats due to rising fuel costs triggered by political tensions in the Middle East.

A series of Southeast Asian airlines recently cut international routes amid rising fuel costs.
