News Desk. To improve rail connectivity in the eastern part of Bihar, work is progressing on plans to lay the third and fourth rail lines. With the expansion of the rail network from Kiul to Bhagalpur, the movement of goods trains along with passengers is expected to get relief.
Third railway line will be laid at a cost of Rs 1,094 crore
The plan to lay a 52.81 km long third railway line on the Jamalpur-Bhagalpur railway section has received approval from the Railway Board. This project is estimated to cost around Rs 1,094.53 crore. At the same time, the survey work related to the third line in Jamalpur-Kiul section is also progressing. Survey has also been conducted for the fourth railway line from Kiul to Jamalpur.
The pressure of operating 200 trains will be reduced
At present around 200 passenger and goods trains run daily between Bhagalpur, Jamalpur and Kiul. Due to limited railway lines, there is a lot of waiting time for trains to operate. Construction of new lines will increase the capacity of the rail network and may improve the timely running of trains.
Business and employment will get a boost
These railway projects are expected to speed up freight transportation, deliver goods to industries and increase employment opportunities at the local level. The plan is targeted to be completed by 2029, while 2030 is the target for projects related to the third rail tunnel.
However, to speed up the construction of the third railway line, necessary processes including land acquisition will have to be completed. After the completion of the projects, rail travel and freight transportation in East Bihar may become easier than before.
