Japanese car manufacturer Nissan has made a big announcement for their customers. The company has decided to discontinue 11 models in its global lineup. This decision is being taken to strengthen the business and reduce costs. After this change, the total number of models that Nissan has will decrease from 56 to 45. This information was given by the company while introducing Nissan Juke EV and Nissan X-Trail.

Low selling models will be discontinued

The company’s CEO Ivan Espinosa said that models that do not sell as well as expected will be discontinued. This will enable the company to use its resources more efficiently and bring better products to the market in the future. The company will now focus on lower quality models. It also plans to offer more engine and feature options in each model.

Division into four categories

Nissan has decided to divide its cars into four major categories – Heartbeat, Core, Growth and Partner. The Heartbeat category will have exclusive cars like Nissan Leaf and Patrol. Core category will include flagship models like X-Trail and Qashqai. The Growth category will include the Elgrand and Sakura, while the Partner category will house models like the Micra and Frontier.

Emphasis on premium and new models

The company is going to focus more on premium and new models in the coming years. Cars like Skyline, X-Trail Hybrid, Juke EV and X-Terra are in the works. It also plans to introduce new premium models under the Infiniti brand. The company is planning to introduce hybrid SUV, powerful sedan and large SUV in future.

What effect on India?

Nissan currently has three models available in India namely Nissan Magnite, Renault Triber and Nissan Gravite. Therefore, the direct impact of the discontinuation of 11 models will not be much on the Indian market. However, the company is preparing to launch new models in India in the future.
