Desk: Tata Motors is preparing to give a new identity to its compact sedan Tigor. The company may soon introduce its major updated version under the name Tata Aeris. The company has released a teaser, in which a glimpse of the new sedan has been shown. Along with this, the launch date of 25 September 2026 has also been revealed. After the arrival of the new car, the Tigor name may be removed from the company's passenger car range. However, the final name, variant and price of the car will be fully revealed at the time of launch.
Tata Tigor was first launched in the Indian market in 2017. After this the company made many updates in it from time to time. However, instead of just a normal facelift, the new Aeris may see major changes in design and features. The company can offer this car as a modern and premium option in the compact sedan segment. Its direct competition will be with cars like Maruti Suzuki Dzire, Hyundai Aura and Honda Amaze.
Many changes can be seen in the design of the new Tata Aeris. Information about its possible design was also revealed from the patent photos that surfaced earlier. A thin grill, new bumper and updated lighting setup can be given in the front of the car. It is expected to get LED headlamps and LED daytime running lights. The side profile may retain the notchback style like Tigor. However, with the new alloy wheels its look may be more modern than before. Connected LED tail lamps, new bumper and vertical reflectors can be provided in the rear section. AERIS written in big letters can also be seen on the boot.
Major changes are also expected in the cabin of Tata Aeris. Its dashboard layout may be similar to the updated Tiago. The car is expected to get a large 10.25 inch touchscreen infotainment system. Apart from this, features like digital or semi-digital driver display, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay can also be provided. Features include cruise control, wireless charging, automatic climate control and rear AC vents. 360 degree camera can also be available in the top variant. For safety, it is expected to be provided with 6 airbags, electronic stability control, ABS, hill-hold assist and tire pressure monitoring system. However, the crash test rating of the car has not been revealed yet. Therefore, there is no definite information regarding its expected 4 or 5 star rating.
The company's 1.2 liter naturally aspirated petrol engine may continue in the new Tata Aeris. Factory-fitted CNG option is also expected to come with it. According to reports, the petrol engine can deliver approximately 86 PS of power and 113 Nm of torque. At the same time, the CNG version can get power of about 76 PS and torque of 97 Nm. Gearbox options are expected to include 5-speed manual and 5-speed AMT. These figures are based on the powertrain used in Tiago and the final specifications will be revealed at the time of launch.
Tata Aeris is expected to be launched on 25 September 2026. Its expected ex-showroom price could be between Rs 6 lakh to Rs 10 lakh. After launch, it will compete with Maruti Suzuki Dzire, Hyundai Aura and Honda Amaze. The company may try to strengthen its position in the compact sedan segment through the new Aeris. Final details of the car's name, variants, price and features are expected to be revealed closer to the launch.
