Those going on Chardham Yatra be careful! ‘Orange alert’ of heavy rain on May 12 and 13, administration issues major advisory
Chardham Yatra is at its full speed in Uttarakhand and thousands of devotees from across the country and the world are coming to pay obeisance at Baba’s door. But if you are planning to visit Kedarnath, Badrinath, Gangotri or Yamunotri within the next two-three days, then this news is very important for you. In fact, the Meteorological Department has issued an ‘Orange Alert’ in view of the harsh weather conditions in the hilly areas of Uttarakhand. The department estimates that there may be heavy rain and hailstorm in many parts of the state on May 12 and 13.
In view of this warning of bad weather, the government and administration have come on full alert mode. Garhwal Commissioner Vinay Shankar Pandey has made a special appeal to all the devotees and tourists coming on Chardham Yatra. He has said that passengers should give priority to their safety and proceed further only after getting weather updates. The main objective of the administration is to ensure that no devotee faces any inconvenience due to bad weather.
Meteorological Department’s ‘Orange Alert’ and administration’s preparations
According to the forecast of the Meteorological Department, the weather is going to be very sensitive in the high altitude areas of Uttarakhand on May 12 and 13. In fact, due to the activity of western disturbance in the Himalayan regions, there is a possibility of heavy rain and lightning. The risk of landslides increases during rains on mountain roads, due to which there is a possibility of travel routes being disrupted.
Understanding the seriousness of this, Garhwal Commissioner Vinay Shankar Pandey has urged the travelers to be extra cautious while making travel plans on May 12 and 13. He suggested that if possible, postpone your travel for some time until the weather becomes normal. The administration says that the weather in the mountains changes every moment, so proceeding without complete information can be risky.
Special instructions for devotees: what to do and what not to do
It is being told that in view of the crowd and weather conditions on the Chardham route, strict instructions have been given to the local administration. An appeal has been made to the devotees to strictly follow the guidelines issued from time to time by the administration and local authorities during the yatra. In fact, many times devotees ignore the warnings in their enthusiasm, which can prove dangerous on inaccessible roads.
According to local people, sudden rains in the month of May cause a sharp drop in temperature, hence travelers have been advised to keep adequate warm clothes and necessary medicines with them. Apart from this, passengers have also been asked to keep an eye on the latest weather conditions through the registration portal and official social media handles.
Safe travel is the first priority of the government
The state government has made it clear that its first priority is to keep the Chardham Yatra smooth, safe and organized. From the Chief Minister’s Office to the district administration, all concerned departments have been instructed to be prepared to deal with the emergency situation. The Garhwal Commissioner has expressed confidence that if the devotees cooperate with the administration and remain alert, the Yatra will be completed successfully without any hindrance.
In fact, the government is trying to ensure that along with the faith of every devotee coming on the Chardham Yatra, his safety is also ensured. For this, SDRF and police teams have been deployed at sensitive places. Machines have been deployed on the travel routes so that if any landslide occurs, the route can be opened immediately.
Finally, if you are also in the valleys of Uttarakhand on these dates, then caution is the biggest protection. Keep your devotion safe amid the hide-and-seek weather and respect the instructions of the administration.
