Port Vila, 25 October 2026: A series of earthquakes was felt near the Vanuatu islands. The United States Geological Survey (USGS) has recorded earthquakes of magnitude 7.2, 6.9 and 6.3 in this area.
According to information received from agencies, there is currently no report of loss of life or loss due to these powerful earthquakes.
Three earthquakes, one after the other
USGS said in a post on social media platform 'X' that a 7.2 magnitude earthquake occurred about 200 kilometers west of Sola, Vanuatu.
The agency also said that a magnitude 6.9 earthquake occurred about 197 kilometers west-northwest of Port-Orly, and a 6.3-magnitude earthquake occurred about 170 kilometers northwest of Port-Orly.
India's National Center for Seismology (NCS) recorded an earthquake of magnitude 6.9 off Vanuatu islands on Saturday morning.
In a post on X, NCS said that the earthquake occurred at 8:01 am Indian Standard Time (IST) and its epicenter was at a depth of 20 kilometers.
The intensity and location reported by both agencies are preliminary estimates, and there are some discrepancies between their reports.
