Tiger Woods seeks to hide prescription records in DUI case

While the 15-time major champion has pleaded not guilty to misdemeanor DUI charges, the legal battle over his prescription history has become a focal point of the criminal investigation.

Woods was arrested on March 28 on charges of driving under the influence, causing property damage, and refusing a mandatory medical check. After approximately eight hours in custody, he was released on bail and sent home, appearing exhausted.

Body camera footage was published by the police after the accident. While a breathalyzer test showed 0% blood alcohol content, officers discovered two white pills in his pocket, later identified as the opioid painkiller hydrocodone.

The 15-time major champion has denied the charges and is scheduled to appear in court on May 5.

According to Golf weekprosecutors recently filed a subpoena for Woods’s prescription records from Jan. 1 to March 27, 2026.

Woods’s defense attorney, Douglas Duncan, has formally objected, arguing that the request violates his client’s right to privacy and asking the court to consider the relevance of these records to the case.

The defense also requested that, if the subpoena is granted, a protective order be issued to control the use and release of Woods’ medical data.

Prosecutors are seeking specific details, including medication types, dosages and any safety warnings provided to the golfer regarding operating a vehicle.

Vanessa Trump, a former daughter-in-law of Donald Trump who has been dating the golfer since 2025, has remained a source of support throughout the legal trouble.

Following the arrest, Vanessa posted a supportive message for Woods on social media, saying “love you”.

Amid the legal proceedings, Woods announced he is stepping away from the sport to enter a treatment facility, a move a Florida judge recently authorized.

The 50-year-old star missed the 2026 Masters as a result. President Donald Trump, who awarded Woods the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2019, told the New York Post that the golfer is dealing with “tremendous physical pressure from his various ailments” from chronic back and leg injuries.
