Timely identification and treatment can save life, do not ignore the symptoms of stroke…

New Delhi:- World Stroke Day is celebrated every year on 29 October. The main objective of celebrating this day is to make people aware about brain stroke and to give information about its symptoms, prevention and importance of timely treatment. Stroke is a serious medical condition, in which if timely treatment is not received, a person may die or face long-term physical disability.
What is brain stroke?
Brain stroke occurs when the blood supply to any part of the brain is disrupted or a blood vessel in the brain bursts. Due to this, brain cells do not get enough oxygen and they start getting damaged. In cases of stroke, it is very important to get treatment early.
Do not ignore these symptoms
Some major symptoms of brain stroke may appear suddenly. These include the face drooping to one side, weakness or numbness in an arm or leg, trouble speaking or understanding others, sudden loss of vision, loss of balance, and severe headache.

If such symptoms appear in a person, he should be taken to the hospital without any delay. Even if symptoms resolve after some time, medical examination is still necessary.
What to do if you have a stroke?
When symptoms of stroke appear, one should not try home remedies or wait for the symptoms to resolve on their own. Call an ambulance immediately and take the patient to the nearest hospital where stroke treatment is available. Do not give the patient medicine, food, or water on his own, especially if he is having trouble swallowing.

The risk can be reduced by these measures
High blood pressure, diabetes, increased cholesterol, smoking, physical inactivity and unbalanced diet can increase the risk of stroke. Regular exercise, balanced diet, staying away from tobacco and controlling blood pressure and sugar can help in reducing its risk. The message of World Stroke Day is that the serious consequences of stroke can be reduced with awareness, timely identification of symptoms and immediate medical attention. Therefore, recognize the signs of stroke and seek immediate medical attention if needed.
