TMC made Shobhandeb Chattopadhyay leader of opposition in Bengal Assembly
Kolkata: After the defeat in the West Bengal Assembly elections, All India Trinamool Congress has now made a major change in its leadership in the Assembly. The party has made senior leader Shobhandeb Chattopadhyay the Leader of Opposition. Information about this decision was given by the party’s National General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee. This decision of TMC came when Suvendu Adhikari had taken oath as the Chief Minister a day earlier. TMC chief Mamata Banerjee had lost from Bhawanipur seat in the elections, after which the party needed an experienced face in the assembly.

Party relies on long political experience
Shobhandeb Chattopadhyay is a well-known name in Bengal politics. He registered a big victory from Ballygunge seat and has become MLA for the 10th consecutive time. He started politics with Congress, but later joined TMC with Mamata Banerjee. He is counted among the most trusted leaders of the party. During different tenures of the TMC government, he handled important departments like electricity, agriculture and parliamentary affairs. In 2021, he left Bhawanipur seat for Mamata Banerjee. The party has made Asima Patra and Nayana Bandyopadhyay deputy leaders of opposition, while Kolkata Municipal Corporation Mayor Firhad Hakim will play the role of chief whip in the House.
