TMC-BJP supporters clash at Kolkata airport, ruckus before Abhishek’s arrival

Kolkata: A tense situation arose at the Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport on Friday when a heated clash broke out between TMC and Bharatiya Janata Party supporters ahead of the arrival of Trinamool Congress (TMC) national general secretary and MP Abhishek Banerjee. The altercation that started between the two parties soon turned into pushing and scuffling, due to which an atmosphere of chaos was created in the airport premises for some time.

sloganeering against each other

According to the information, Abhishek Banerjee was returning from Delhi to Kolkata and a large number of TMC supporters had reached the airport to welcome him. During this time BJP supporters were also present there. A dispute started between the two parties over some issue, which soon turned violent. According to eyewitnesses, workers of both the parties raised slogans against each other, after which the atmosphere became more tense.

TMC supporters alleged that BJP workers were planning to protest when Abhishek Banerjee reached the airport. They claimed that some people were preparing to throw eggs at their leader. A heated debate started between the two sides regarding this apprehension. As the round of allegations and counter-allegations increased, the supporters came face to face and the situation reached a scuffle.

Police and security agencies activated

Seeing the sudden increase in tension in a sensitive area like the airport, police and security agencies immediately became active. Policemen who reached the spot tried to separate the two groups and additional force was also deployed to control the situation. Security officials took special care to maintain order in the airport premises, so that passengers and other people do not face any kind of trouble.

After this uproar that continued for some time, the police controlled the situation and sent both the parties to different places. After this the situation at the airport started becoming normal. The officials also ensured that no untoward incident happens again.

Amidst this entire incident, Abhishek Banerjee safely exited the Kolkata airport. It was told that he was not brought out from the exit gate where the dispute had taken place between the supporters of both the parties. For security reasons, they were taken out through the second exit gate, so that the possibility of any possible conflict could be avoided.

The incident has once again exposed the growing political competition in West Bengal politics and tension among the workers. However, due to the prompt action of the police, the situation soon came under control and no major untoward incident took place.
