TMC MP Kalyan Banerjee suspended from Lok Sabha for the remaining session on complaint of 2 women MPs

New Delhi, 22 July. The monsoon session of Parliament has almost come to a standstill for the last three days amid political turmoil due to the ongoing movement under the banner of Cockroach Janata Party (CJP). Meanwhile, Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Kalyan Banerjee was suspended from the Lok Sabha for the remaining period of the current session after a heated clash with some women MPs of the newly formed National Citizens Party of India (NCPI) on Wednesday.

In fact, after the Lok Sabha proceedings were adjourned till the next day due to the uproar on Wednesday, there was a heated argument in the House between TMC leader Kalyan Banerjee and his former party colleague and some NCPI MPs. NCPI leaders Mithali Bagh, Shatabdi Roy and Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar were involved in this altercation.

After this, two women MPs complained to Speaker Om Birla that Kalyan Banerjee misbehaved with them and abused them. After this complaint, Lok Sabha Speaker Birla suspended Kalyan Banerjee from the House for the remaining period of the current session. Following the suspension, Banerjee was barred from entering the House premises for the remainder of the session. Fellow TMC MPs took him to meet the Speaker for a hearing. It is noteworthy that Kalyan Banerjee remains with Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee.

However, it was not clear what caused the dispute between the two parties. Some opposition MPs intervened and tried to pacify both the parties. Kalyan Banerjee walked out of the House when asked about the incident by some opposition MPs. After this, Mithali Bagh, Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar and some other NCPI MPs reached the chamber of Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla to raise the issue. According to sources, Birla asked NCPI MPs to submit a written complaint in this regard.

It is noteworthy that after the defeat of Trinamool Congress in the West Bengal Assembly elections, 20 MPs of the party had rebelled against the leadership and joined NCPI. He is sitting separately from Trinamool Congress MPs in the Lok Sabha. NCPI MPs have also expressed their support towards the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
