To prove himself dead, he took the life of a beggar, former policeman arrested
A dismissed police constable has been arrested on charges of murder in Hathras, Uttar Pradesh. It is alleged that this person killed a beggar to show his death. Not only this, the accused kept his identity card and belongings with the beggar’s body and also burnt it. The deceased has not been identified yet but the investigation is ongoing. Police say that this absconding person had created this whole game to make himself look dead, but his secret was exposed by burning himself. It has also been told that this person was dismissed from the post of constable due to his criminal activities.
Police have said that the incident took place on March 12 in a tin shed near Hathras Road Halt of North Eastern Railway, from where the charred body of an unidentified elderly man was recovered. According to the police, Ramveer Singh (55), who was already dismissed from service due to criminal activities, allegedly killed the beggar and set the body on fire. Police said that the accused also kept his identity card and belongings near the dead body to mislead the officials so that the false claim of his death could be proved true.

A case was registered at the Government Railway Police (GRP) station of Hathras city and during investigation, the police uncovered the conspiracy and arrested Ramveer Singh, a resident of Kishni area of Mainpuri district on April 14. Hathras city GRP police station in-charge Suyash Singh said that the accused had committed the crime with the intention of making himself look dead but during the investigation the truth came to light. The officer said, ‘He is a habitual criminal and has several cases registered against him on serious charges like kidnapping, murder, robbery and fraud in many districts including Firozabad, Aligarh, Moradabad, Hardoi, Mainpuri and Badaun.’ He was dismissed in 2013 itself due to 13 cases being registered while on duty.
How was it revealed?
Ramveer Singh’s connection came to light only through the Aadhar card found with the burnt body. It is alleged that Ramveer Singh was absconding since his dismissal from service and he created this whole game only to escape from the police. He found a beggar of similar stature to himself and first killed him and then sprinkled kerosene on him and set him on fire. In this attempt, he himself got burnt a little.

At first he kept hiding for two days, took medicine from the medical store but when things did not work out, he got admitted to the district hospital of Hathras on 14 March. Due to 40% burns, his condition was critical and he was referred to PGI, Saifai. He described himself as the driver of a vehicle and said that he got burnt due to the CNG cylinder blast. When the monthly report of the district hospital found mention of a patient with 40% burns, the officials were shocked. He had got the application done in his real name, due to which his secret was exposed.
In fact, the name written on the paper found near the burnt body and on the documents given by Ramveer Singh to the district hospital was his name, hence the truth came out. When the police traced him and interrogated him, he confessed to his crime. According to the police, the deceased has not been identified yet. Police said that legal action is underway to ascertain the identity of the deceased and in the matter.
