Today’s weather: Heavy rain will occur in 13 states within 10 hours on May 26, IMD issues alert

New Delhi: India Meteorological Department has issued an alert of heavy rain, storm and heat wave in many parts of the country for May 26. According to the latest press release of IMD, the effect of rain will increase in North-Eastern, Southern and Eastern states. At the same time, extreme heat will trouble people in North-West and Central India.

South-west monsoon gained momentum  

The Meteorological Department said that the south-west monsoon is advancing rapidly. Its effect is visible in Kerala and coastal areas. Monsoon will become more active in the next few days. This will increase the scope of rain in South and Northeast India.

Warning of heavy rain in north-eastern and eastern states   

Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura will receive light to moderate rain on Tuesday. There is a possibility of heavy rain at many places. There may be very heavy rain in some areas of Assam and Meghalaya. There is also an alert of heavy rain and strong winds in West Bengal and Sikkim. There will be rain and thundershowers in Bihar, Jharkhand and Odisha. At some places, winds will blow at a speed of 50 to 70 km per hour.

Rainy season from Kerala to Telangana   

In South India, rain will continue over Kerala, Lakshadweep, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karnataka and Telangana. Heavy rain may occur at many places in Kerala and Lakshadweep. Strong winds along with thunderstorm will occur over coastal and interior Karnataka. The weather will also remain changed in Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema. IMD has advised fishermen not to venture into the sea as high waves may occur.

Heat wave continues to wreak havoc in North India   

Heat wave will continue in Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab and Delhi. Severe heat wave will prevail in parts of West Rajasthan and Eastern UP. The mercury will also remain high in Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha and Chhattisgarh. However, some areas of Jammu-Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand may get relief from light rain and strong winds.

IMD advisory   

The Meteorological Department said that there may be problems of waterlogging and traffic jams in areas with heavy rains. There is a danger of water logging in low-lying areas. Health problems may increase in heat wave states. People have been advised to avoid sunlight in the afternoon and drink plenty of water. Follow the guidelines of the administration and keep an eye on weather updates.
