Toll Pass – NHAI Launches Two New Services for Frequent Commuters, Know the Details

Toll Pass: The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has introduced a significant digital service for local residents using national highways. Residents living within a 20-kilometer radius of any toll plaza can now conveniently purchase a local toll pass from their homes via the Highway Travel mobile app. This pass permits unlimited travel through the designated toll plaza for an entire month. Previously, individuals had to visit the toll plaza in person to apply and submit the required documents to demonstrate their eligibility.

The local toll pass will help save time

With the new digital system in place, this entire procedure can now be completed online in just a few minutes, saving time and sparing people from unnecessary hassle.

As per NHAI, the digital local toll pass has currently been launched at the Mundka-Bakkarwala toll plaza on Urban Extension Road-2 in Delhi. This service will be rolled out to other eligible toll plazas nationwide in the upcoming months.

How does it function?

The new system incorporates consent-based integration with government digital platforms like DigiLocker and Vahan. This automatically gathers the applicant’s address, vehicle number, and verified details of the associated FASTag. Additionally, Geographic Information System (GIS)-based verification confirms that the applicant resides within a 20-kilometer radius of the relevant toll plaza. This process eliminates the need for manual document checks, making it more transparent and accurate. To further assist travelers, NHAI has also launched the Margmitra Help Centre, which is integrated into the Highway Yatra app.

This is an intelligent digital assistance platform where individuals traveling on National Highways can access information, file complaints, and receive help related to various services. Margmitra’s unique feature is that travelers can type or speak their questions or concerns in India’s 22 official languages. The platform provides instant information on services such as FASTag recharge, KYC, refund status, annual and local passes, and more.

If a matter requires departmental intervention, the complaint is automatically routed to the relevant department. Complainants can track the progress of their complaint in real time and file an appeal if they are dissatisfied with the resolution.

You can report road safety issues

Apart from this, through Margmitra one can also check FASTag blacklist status, view pending e-notices and report defective vehicles, encroachments or other road safety related issues on National Highways. NHAI has appealed to the travelers to avail its digital services by downloading the Highway Yatra App available on Android and iOS platforms, so that travel on national highways becomes more safe, simple and convenient.
