According to the latest bulletin of the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), the weather system has once again become highly active over the states of Eastern, Central and Southern India as the process of departure of monsoon from North-West India has started. Due to the effect of Cyclonic Circulation over the Bay of Bengal and low pressure moving towards South Odisha-North Andhra Pradesh coasts, a warning has been issued for torrential rains, strong winds with a speed of 50 to 60 km per hour and lightning in more than 7 states of the country on Sunday, September 20. It is very important for people planning to travel or go out on the last day of the week to know the weather conditions. Cyclonic system formed in the Bay of Bengal, alert of storm and rain from Jharkhand to Bengal According to the Meteorological Department, due to the seasonal circulation over West Bengal, North Coastal Odisha and Jharkhand, the intensity of rain will be highest in Eastern India. West Bengal: Stormy winds with speed of 40 to 50 kmph are expected to occur over Gangetic West Bengal and Sub-Himalayan districts along with heavy rainfall. There is a possibility of heavy rain and thundershowers in the coastal areas of Kolkata, Howrah, South 24 Parganas and Medinipur. Jharkhand: There is a yellow alert for moderate to heavy rain with thunder and lightning in Ranchi, Jamshedpur, Dhanbad, Bokaro and Santal Pargana regions on Sunday. During this period, there is a possibility of lightning and strong winds at a speed of 40-50 km per hour. Odisha: Alert of heavy to very heavy rain and thunderstorm with speed of 50 to 60 km per hour has been given in many districts of Odisha (Balasore, Bhadrak, Mayurbhanj, Puri and Bhubaneswar). Due to rough sea, fishermen have been instructed not to venture into the deep sea. Warning of heavy rain in these 7 major states: According to the special bulletin of the Meteorological Department, the rain activities can be the most intense in these seven states of the country on September 20: Odisha: Alert of heavy to very heavy rainfall and stormy winds. West Bengal: Torrential rain and thundershowers in many districts. Jharkhand: Warning of rain with lightning and thunder. Chhattisgarh: Heavy rain and strong winds in Bilaspur, Raipur, Bastar and Surguja divisions. Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Telangana: Heavy rainfall and winds up to 50 kmph over coastal and Rayalaseema areas. Karnataka (Coastal and Interior): Chance of heavy rain in coastal areas including South and North Interior Karnataka. Maharashtra (Central Maharashtra and Konkan-Goa): Heavy rains with thunderstorms will continue in Mumbai, Pune, Satara and Konkan belt. How will the weather be in Delhi-NCR, UP and Bihar? Monsoon activities have started slowing down over the plains of North and North-Central India: Delhi-NCR: The weather will be mainly dry and partly cloudy over the national capital Delhi, Noida, Ghaziabad and Gurugram. The maximum day temperature is expected to be between 33 to 35 degrees Celsius and it is expected to remain humid. Uttar Pradesh: There is no major alert of any widespread heavy rain in western and eastern UP. Condition of Madhya Pradesh and hilly states: Due to local weather system, light to moderate rain with thunderstorms and strong winds may occur in eastern and western divisions of Madhya Pradesh (Bhopal, Indore, Jabalpur, Chhindwara and Gwalior). Monsoon is weakening in the hilly states of Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir. The weather will be clear in the low lying areas, while sporadic rain may be seen in some limited areas at higher altitudes. Safety Advisory for Farmers and Citizens The Meteorological Department has especially advised residents of Jharkhand, Odisha, West Bengal and Chhattisgarh to be alert about lightning (thunderstorm). Whenever clouds thunder or a strong storm blows, farmers working in the fields should not take shelter in open fields, under tall trees or iron pillars. Stay in pucca houses during rains and storms and avoid unnecessary travel in waterlogged low-lying areas and hilly roads.
