Tony Romo wasn’t included in CBS’ recently announced broadcast teams for the next two weeks. This news comes after he was arrested on suspicion of OWI in Milwaukee in July. The network has since placed him on leave, as his future as an analyst at CBS remains uncertain.
Tony Romo’s CBS absence continues with new broadcaster schedule
CBS shared the names of the broadcasters for Week 2 and 3. Jim Nantz and J.J. Watt will be at their broadcasting duties, with the latter having replaced Romo. They will also be commentating on the Baltimore Ravens vs. Dallas Cowboys game.
On Monday, CBS confirmed that Romo won’t be back on the roster before Week 4, which has seemingly sparked discussions. Many believe that the renowned analyst may be absent for the entire 2026 season but some have hopes that he may return soon.
Earlier this month, Romo took to Instagram to share an update following his no-contest plea to an OWI charge. He said, “Multiple back surgeries ended my career earlier than I expected and left me with constant, debilitating pain.” The former NFL star further admitted his struggles with pain medication and alcoholism.
Romo shared a lesson that he has taught his young sons, stating, “When you fall short, you stand up and take full responsibility. That is an important first step.” He further emphasized how it’s crucial to look at the actions and choices that led to the current situation, understand what went wrong, and “make the necessary changes” moving forward.
Romo also mentioned that he’s working with doctors to evaluate his health and take the necessary steps. “As I turn my attention to my health, my family, and, in time, my return to CBS, I kindly ask for privacy during this period,” he elaborated.
