The Toronto Sixers secured a remarkable double in Canada Super 60 Season 2 by winning the men’s championship after defeating the Vancouver Anchors by five wickets in the final at BC Place in Vancouver on October 5. Earlier, they had already claimed the women’s title.
The Vancouver Anchors, co-owned by Zaheer Khan, posted 164 for three after being sent in to bat. Obus Pienaar scored an unbeaten 82 from 21 balls, including two fours and 12 sixes, while captain Moeen Ali made 45 off 18 deliveries, featuring two fours and five sixes. The Anchors started aggressively with Aneurin Donald scoring 17 from nine balls and Aaron Johnson adding 14 from 10, before Martin Andersson was dismissed for a duck.
The Anchors finished with a high run rate of 16.40, thanks to contributions from Pienaar and Moeen Ali. However, the Sixers chased down the target with the final ball, reaching 168 for five. Nicholas Pooran led the successful chase with 67 runs off 23 balls, including two fours and nine sixes at a strike rate of 291.30. Kieron Pollard contributed 35 from 13 balls and Daniel Sams remained unbeaten on 25 off nine balls, hitting three sixes. Will Smeed also added 16 from seven deliveries before being dismissed by Lewis Gregory.
Pooran’s innings set a strong pace, with Pollard and Sams maintaining the momentum to ensure the victory. Pooran was named Player of the Tournament after scoring 207 runs and taking two wickets over the course of the competition.
The Sixers reached the final by defeating the previously unbeaten Mississauga Masters by nine runs in the first semi-final. Mississauga had topped the league stage, but Toronto defeated the tournament’s strongest league-stage side with a composed knockout performance. The Vancouver Anchors advanced after a six-wicket win over Brampton Blitz in the second semi-final, setting up the title clash between the second-placed Sixers and fourth-placed Anchors. The victory completes the Toronto Sixers’ championship double, following their women’s team’s successful title defense.
