Automobile desk: On the cusp of the festive season, creating excitement in the Indian automobile market, Toyota Kirloskar Motor has introduced a new facelift version of its popular premium hatchback Glanza. The starting ex-showroom price of this vehicle in Indian showrooms has been fixed at Rs 6.99 lakh, which goes up to Rs 10.49 lakh for the top-spec model. The company has introduced this updated car in a total of five main trims – E, S, G, V and V (O). This time, not only cosmetic changes have been made, but major improvements are also being seen on the front of mechanical setup, safety and comfort features.

New 3-cylinder Z12E petrol engine and gearbox options
Talking about technical changes, Toyota has removed the old 4-cylinder engine from its new Glanza and included a brand new 1.2-litre Z12E, 3-cylinder petrol engine. This new engine has the capability to generate power of 83 bhp and maximum torque of 112 Nm in petrol mode. For transmission, both 5-speed manual and 5-speed AMT gearbox options have been retained.

If we look at the figures, there has been a slight decline of about 7 bhp power and 1 Nm torque in the output as compared to the old engine, but the company says that this new engine has been tuned with the aim of giving more fuel efficiency i.e. mileage than before. To save petrol in city traffic, it is also provided with Idle Start-Stop technology. For those customers who want to choose CNG option, this engine gives 70 bhp power and 102 Nm torque in CNG mode. It is worth noting that this time CNG customers have also been given the facility to choose AMT gearbox along with manual.

Freshness and new color shades in design
In terms of look and design, the front profile has been given a new touch. A large grill and satin finishing work is visible at the front, which makes the face of the car look more attractive. Apart from this, the housing of the LED fog lamps has been changed and the Toyota badge has now been shifted just below the bonnet line. A radar unit has been fitted in the lower part of the front bumper, which is part of its new safety system.
The rest of the profile of the car includes 16-inch dual-tone alloy wheels, sporty roof spoiler, signature LED tail-lights and shark-fin antenna on the tail-gate. Expanding the color options, Toyota has added two new shades – Digital Teal Green and Bluish Black.

Big upgrade in Level-2 ADAS and cabin comfort
Step inside the cabin and experience the new upholstery and front ventilated seats, which will provide great relief during long drives or in hot weather. For infotainment and connectivity, features like 9-inch floating touchscreen, head-up display (HUD), wireless smartphone charger (with cooling vents), rear AC vents and automatic climate control are present. To improve the audio experience, Clarion's 6-speaker sound setup (4 speakers + 2 tweeters) has been installed in it.

On the safety front, the biggest improvement in the new Glanza is the addition of Level-2 ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System). Along with this, 6 airbags, 360-degree view camera, tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS), hill-hold assist and ISOFIX anchor points for child safety have been provided as standard across the entire range.
