Now traffic challan will be dealt with on weekends also, special traffic court will start in Delhi
Weekend Court: There is relief news for lakhs of drivers in Delhi. Let us tell you that to reduce the burden of increasing traffic challans and pending cases, Delhi District Courts have taken an important decision. In which now Weekend Traffic Court is being started in the capital from July 5, 2026. Where people can settle matters related to their traffic challan on Saturday and Sunday. Let us tell you that the purpose of this new system is to provide relief to those people who are unable to attend court or traffic court proceedings on working days of the week. It is believed that this will speed up the disposal of pending cases and will also save people’s time.
When and how will the weekend traffic court work?
For your information, let us tell you that under the new system, special traffic courts will be set up on the second Saturday of every month and on all Sundays from 10 am to 4 pm. These courts will hear only cases involving compoundable violations. Which simply means that such cases can be resolved by paying a fine. Not only this, the facility to download online challan is also going to be started from June 25, 2026. In which vehicle owners will be able to select the court, date and time as per their convenience. Due to which the process will become much easier than before.
More than 4.3 crore challans still pending
According to the data of Delhi Traffic Police till June 15, more than 4.3 crore traffic challans and notices issued from cameras are pending in the capital. These include more than 1 crore on-the-spot challans and about 3.3 crore notices issued by automated enforcement cameras. In view of such a large number of pending cases, a total of 22 new benches have been created in 11 district court complexes of Delhi. Two special courts will function in each district and each bench will aim to dispose of around 700 cases per day.
Working people will get the biggest relief
DCP S.K. Regarding this, Singh has said that the challans which are not settled on time. They are sent to virtual courts, due to which the number of pending cases keeps increasing. But the traffic police has already been organizing evening courts, special courts and Lok Adalats, yet it is not easy for working people to find time on weekdays. In such a situation, the introduction of Weekend Traffic Court can prove to be a big relief for lakhs of drivers.

Regarding this new initiative, experts believe that this will not only reduce the pressure on the courts but will also provide more convenience to the people in the process of settling the challan. Also, through digital facility the entire process can be made more transparent and faster.
