Traffic rules become more strict in Delhi, auto-action if not resolved in 45 days; CM Rekha presented the blueprint

Traffic rules in Delhi are going to become more strict now. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has announced a new system, under which it will be mandatory to settle traffic challans within the stipulated time. Now it will be difficult to avoid carelessness or breaking rules on the road. The aim of this step is to increase road safety, bring discipline and make the entire process digital and transparent.

What is the new change?

The government will soon implement the amended rules of the Central Motor Vehicles Rules 1989. Under this, the process of challan will be made completely digital and strict.

If a person breaks traffic rules 5 or more times in a year, he will be kept in a serious category. In such cases his driving license may be suspended or cancelled.

New process for issuing challan

Now challans can be issued both on paper and electronically. With the help of camera and digital system, challan will also be generated automatically.

  • Challan details will be sent online within 3 days
  • And notice will also reach home within 15 days

Records of all challans will remain on the online portal. Therefore, vehicle owners have been advised to keep the mobile number and address correct in their license and RC.

Time for payment or objection

After receiving the challan the person will have 45 days to:

  • either he pays the challan
  • Or file an objection with proof on the portal

If no response is received within 45 days, the invoice will automatically be considered valid and payment will have to be made within 30 days.

If the objection is rejected, then:

  • Full payment to be made within 30 days
  • Or you can deposit 50% amount and take the case to court.

What will happen if payment is not made on time?

After the deadline, electronic notices will be sent daily.
If payment is still not made:

  • All vehicle related work (like tax, license renewal, registration) will stop
  • The vehicle will be marked as “Not to be Transacted”
  • If necessary, the vehicle can also be confiscated

Government’s appeal

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has appealed to the people to follow traffic rules and pay challans on time. This new system is a big step towards reducing road accidents and creating responsible citizens.
