Tragic plane accident in Dominican Republic: Jet crashes after technical fault, two killed

Dominican Republic: A major plane accident has come to light in the Dominican Republic. A private jet crashed while attempting an emergency landing at the country’s La Romana International Airport. After the accident, a massive fire broke out in the plane and within a few minutes the entire aircraft was burnt to ashes. The pilot and co-pilot of the plane died in this accident.

According to the information, the Gulfstream G200 private jet with American registration had left for Texas from Puerto Rico. Shortly after takeoff, a technical fault was reported in the plane. Initial reports suggest engine failure or a problem with the hydraulic system. After this the crew tried to bring the plane back to the airport and land it safely.

Plane skidded in grassy area

However, during landing on the runway, the plane lost its balance and slipped off the runway and reached the grassy area. Immediately after this, the plane caught fire, which took a huge turn in no time. Both the pilots died on the spot in the accident. The deceased have been identified as Eric Javier Diego and Rudy Ghazal.

Pilots informed air traffic control

It is a matter of relief that there were no passengers present in the crashed plane. It is being told that this plane was going to pick up former Major League Baseball player Yadier Molina, his family and friends. Molina later confirmed that he and his family were not on board the plane at the time.

The plane was being operated by Puerto Rico-based Abonito Aviation Company. When a technical fault occurred a few minutes after takeoff, the pilots informed air traffic control and decided to return. But this tragic accident happened during emergency landing.

Detailed investigation started after the accident

In the video viral on social media, thick smoke is seen rising from the airport premises, while firefighters are seen making continuous efforts to control the fire. Local aviation authorities have launched a detailed investigation into the accident and the actual cause of the technical fault is being ascertained.

Concern increased over safety standards after the accident

It is noteworthy that La Romana International Airport is located near one of the major tourist areas of the country. Even before this, many accidents involving private planes have happened in the Dominican Republic. In the year 2021 also, nine people lost their lives in a private plane accident, after which serious questions were raised regarding aircraft safety.
