Mobile recharge can be cheaper
TRAI New Proposal: In today’s time, mobile recharge has become much more expensive than before, due to which the monthly budget of people is being affected. Especially the consumers living in rural areas are facing its impact more. Currently, most mobile recharge plans come with data, so even people who do not need internet have to take a data plan and spend extra money.
Now TRAI has taken a new step to provide relief to consumers. The telecom regulator has released the draft of ‘Telecom Consumer Protection Regulations, 2026’, the aim of which is to provide different options for customers who only want the facility of calls and messages. At present, TRAI has sought suggestions from all concerned parties on this, after which the new rule will come into effect.
What is TRAI’s new proposal?
According to TRAI’s new proposal, telecom companies will now have to provide only call and SMS plans of the same plan along with data recharge plans. This means that customers who do not need internet will be able to choose a cheaper plan without data. Currently, most recharge plans come with data only, due to which many people have to take expensive plans even when they do not need it.
If this offer is implemented, the price of the call and SMS only plan may be much lower than the existing plan. For example, if a data plan is priced at Rs 300, then a call and SMS only plan for the same duration can be available for around Rs 100 to Rs 150.

Who will get the benefit?
This proposal of TRAI will benefit the most those people who do not use the internet. This includes feature phone users, customers who keep a second SIM active and elderly people who only need calls and SMS. However, the final price of these plans will be decided by the telecom companies. After the rules are implemented, companies will be given time to start them. This will increase the chances of customers getting cheap recharge options.
