Tribute to former supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, top leaders of many countries gathered in Tehran
Washington/Tehran, July 4. A large number of senior leaders, religious figures and dignitaries from India and abroad were present at the state ceremony organized in Tehran to pay tribute to Iran’s former supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. The tribute program that started on Friday morning at the Imam Khomeini Mosallah prayer hall in the capital Tehran continued throughout the day. The ceremony was attended by Iranian President Massoud Pezeshkian, Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Ghalibaf, Judiciary Chief Gholam Hossein Mohseni-Ezei and Expediency Discrimination Council Chairman Sadiq Amoli Larijani, among other senior officials.
Heads of state and delegations from many countries arrived
Top leaders and delegations from many countries also participated in the tribute ceremony. These included Pakistan Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, Army Chief Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Armenia’s Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, Georgia’s President Mikhail Kavelashvili, Iraq’s President Nizar Amedee, Tajikistan’s President Emomali Rahmon, Iraq’s Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani and senior representatives of China and Russia. Apart from this, religious leaders, scholars and representatives of various tribal communities also paid tribute to the former supreme leader.
Funeral rituals will continue till July 9
According to Iranian officials, funeral rituals will continue until July 9. During this period, tribute meetings and processions will be organized in Tehran, Qom and Mashhad. There will be special religious programs in Iraq also. In view of the security arrangements, the administration has announced public holidays on certain days and temporary restrictions on airspace in Tehran and Mashhad. A day of national mourning has also been declared.
India also paid tribute
From the Indian side, Minister of State for External Affairs Pabitra Margherita and Governor of Bihar Lieutenant General (Retd) Syed Ata Hasnain reached Tehran and participated in the funeral ceremony and paid tribute on behalf of the Government of India and the countrymen. Minister of State for External Affairs Pabitra Margherita said on social media platform The Foreign Ministry also said in its statement that this high-level representation sends a message of strengthening the long-standing cultural, political and economic relations between the two countries.

According to officials, public tribute events will be held at Tehran’s Imam Khomeini Mosallah prayer hall on July 4 and 5. After this, the main funeral will be held in Tehran on July 6, while special religious rituals will be performed in the city of Qom on July 7.
