  • The Triumph Bonneville T4 is priced at ₹2.55 lakh, while the T40 and T40 Black are priced at ₹2.80 lakh.
  • Both the bikes get a 349cc engine, 29 PS of power and 31 Nm of torque.
  • T40 has TFT display, cruise control and cornering ABS; Unique styling in T40 Black.

Triumph has offered T4, T40 and T40 Black options in its entry-level Bonneville series. Although these bikes are classic in looks, their features and prices create a dilemma for buyers. The Triumph Bonneville T4 is priced at ₹2.55 lakh ex-showroom, while the T40 and T40 Black cost ₹2.80 lakh. That means the T40 costs ₹25,000 more. But what exactly does this high price get? Let’s see.

There is no difference in engine and performance

Both the Triumph Bonneville T4 and T40 bikes are powered by a 349cc liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine. This engine churns out 29 PS of power at 7,000 rpm and 31 Nm of torque at 5,500 rpm. It gets a 6-speed gearbox and an assist-and-slipper clutch. The claimed top speed of both the bikes is 132 kmph. As the engine, brakes, suspension and chassis are similar, no big difference is expected in terms of performance.

₹25,000 What features do you get when you pay more??

The T40 gets a circular TFT instrument display, cruise control, cornering dual-channel ABS and traction control that can be set as needed. The T4 has a color LCD display with turn-by-turn navigation. Both models get traction control, navigation, USB charging and riding modes. So the T40’s higher price is mainly due to the additional rider-assist features and TFT display.

Similarity in design and hardware

Both bikes feature a tubular steel frame, 43 mm front fork and twin rear shock absorbers with 7-step preload adjustment. 310 mm front and 255 mm rear disc brakes are provided. Both have a length of 2,140 mm, a seat height of 790 mm and a weight of 195 kg. The fuel tank capacity is 14 litres.

Different identity in colors too

The T4 is available in Phantom Black, Carnival Red and Competition Green colors. The T40 comes in dual-tone colors of Aegean Blue-Fusion White, Meriden Blue-Tangerine Orange and New England White-Jet Black. The T40 Black gets a matte grey-black finish, black engine parts and brown seats.

If you want the same engine and hardware at a lower price, the T4 may be a good fit. So if features like TFT, cruise control and cornering ABS are important then T40 can be considered. The T40 Black can be chosen mainly for its distinct look.
