New Delhi. US President Donald Trump has once again made a big claim regarding the ongoing war with Iran. On Friday, September 18, Trump said that the war with Iran would end soon. He said that Iran should not have nuclear weapons and this will not be allowed to happen. According to Trump, after the war ends, gas prices in America may return to previous levels, or even go down.
Trump has also given statements before regarding the possible end of the war. He had said that the conflict with Iran could end soon after the US midterm elections in November. He claimed that Tehran is in no position to continue the war for long.
Iran accused of influencing elections
Trump also accused Iran of trying to influence the US elections. According to him, Tehran wants such weak leaders to come to power in America, who will leave Iran alone and allow it to develop nuclear weapons.
Trump said that Iran's main desire is to acquire nuclear weapons. He described its possible consequences as a serious threat to the entire world. However, Trump has not made public any detailed agreement or timeline regarding when and under what conditions the war will end.
Trump also spoke on Xi Jinping's visit to America
Trump also gave positive indications about Chinese President Xi Jinping's upcoming visit to America. He said he hoped Xi would come to America next week and that the meeting between the two leaders would be good. Describing the relations between the two countries as good, Trump also mentioned his personal relations with Xi.
Talks are also going on between America and China on trade issues. According to Reuters, the two countries are discussing possible reductions in tariffs on US LNG and other traded goods ahead of Xi's visit on September 24.
Trump said on China's spying – America also does it
On the question of China spying on America, Trump said that it is possible that China does this, but America also spies on China. Through this statement, Trump also pointed towards the ongoing strategic competition between the two countries.
Apart from trade, issues like artificial intelligence, semiconductor technology and technological competition between the two countries are also likely to be important in Xi Jinping's upcoming visit. According to Reuters, AI could be a major topic of upcoming talks between the two countries.
Trump's claim on oil and gas prices after the war
The Iran war has also affected the global energy market. Oil prices have seen sharp fluctuations due to the US-led Iran war and disruption of energy supplies in the region. The price of Russia's ESPO crude also rose above $120 a barrel in September amid supply disruptions in the Middle East, according to Reuters.
In such an environment, Trump says that gas prices will come down after the war ends. However, actual changes in prices will depend on the end of the war as well as global oil supplies, market conditions and the security situation in the Middle East.
