Trump Says Iran Has One Last Chance As US Military Explores New Strategy

New Delhi: The United States has signalled a possible shift in its approach towards Iran, with President Donald Trump insisting that diplomatic efforts are still alive even as the US military explores new ways to increase pressure on Tehran.

The latest developments come amid continued tensions over Iran’s nuclear programme and regional security.

Trump insists negotiations are continuing

Speaking at the White House, Trump said discussions with Iran were ongoing despite repeated denials from Tehran. According to the US President, several regional partners, including Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Qatar, encouraged Washington to continue pursuing diplomacy.

CENTCOM seeks fresh military ideas

At the same time, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) has reportedly asked military analysts to submit “creative and unconventional” ideas aimed at increasing pressure on Iran.

According to reports, the internal request is part of a broader review of available military and strategic options. While officials described the exercise as consistent with CENTCOM’s tradition of encouraging innovative thinking, the move has drawn attention because it comes during a sensitive phase in US-Iran relations.

Focus remains on Hormuz and nuclear programme

Trump said discussions with regional partners continue to focus on reopening the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most important oil shipping routes, and addressing concerns surrounding Iran’s nuclear activities.

He suggested that maritime traffic through the strategic waterway could return to normal quickly if tensions ease, while acknowledging that resolving issues related to Iran’s nuclear programme would likely take considerably longer.

Fresh security concerns emerge

The diplomatic and military developments coincided with another security incident in the Gulf. Britain’s maritime security agency reported that an unidentified cargo vessel was struck by an unknown projectile while passing through the Strait of Hormuz near the coast of Oman. Authorities have launched an investigation, although no official details regarding the vessel’s identity or casualties have been released.
