Trump Responds to Bartiromo’s Departure
President Donald Trump publicly expressed surprise over Fox News Media’s decision to part ways with Maria Bartiromo, one of his most prominent supporters at the network.
“I can’t believe Maria Bartiromo is no longer going to have her great show(s) on FoxNews/Business,” Trump wrote Thursday night on Truth Social.
“Three different shows, always number one. Maria is a total professional, and a true warrior. Her fans, of which there are many, will not be happy. God bless you, Maria!” he added.
Trump has granted Bartiromo numerous interviews over the years and regularly praised her reporting. She became an influential voice among his supporters through her programs on Fox News and Fox Business.
Fox Offers No Public Explanation
Fox announced Thursday that Bartiromo was leaving after 12½ years, effective immediately.
“We thank Maria for her work over the last 12 ½ years and wish her all the best on her next chapter,” the company said.
The network did not provide a reason for the separation. Bartiromo also had not publicly commented on the circumstances surrounding her departure.
Fox’s limited announcement and the sudden timing of the decision prompted widespread speculation about what led to her exit.
Reports Cite Sharing of Internal Communications
The New York Times reportedciting a person familiar with the decision, that Bartiromo’s departure followed an incident in which she allegedly shared internal Fox Business communications with the White House.
According to the report, Fox journalists had been instructed not to carry Trump’s July prime-time speech concerning election integrity live. Bartiromo allegedly forwarded to the White House a message from a Fox Business executive reiterating that guidance.
The media newsletter Status had previously reported on the alleged incident.
Fox has not publicly confirmed that the sharing of internal communications caused Bartiromo’s departure. The allegation therefore remains a reported explanation based on unidentified sourcing rather than the network’s official account.
Fox Renames Bartiromo’s Programs
Bartiromo hosted “Mornings with Maria” and “Maria Bartiromo’s Wall Street” on Fox Business, along with the weekly “Sunday Morning Futures” on Fox News.
“Mornings with Maria” has been renamed “Mornings with Fox Business” and will use rotating anchors.
Her weekly business program is becoming “FBN’s Wall Street,” initially hosted by Cheryl Casone before moving to a rotating-anchor format. Fox also plans to announce a revised weekday schedule for its business network.
Former Republican Rep. Jason Chaffetz will temporarily host “Sunday Morning Futures” until Fox names a permanent replacement.
Bartiromo’s Long Career in Financial Journalism
Bartiromo joined Fox after spending two decades at CNBC, where she pioneered daily live reporting from the floor of the New York Stock Exchange. Before CNBC, she worked at CNN.
Her Fox tenure increasingly blended business reporting with political coverage. She became known for frequent interviews with Trump and other members of his administration.
Bartiromo was also named in litigation concerning Fox’s coverage of disputed claims about the 2020 presidential election. Fox settled Dominion Voting Systems’ defamation lawsuit in 2023, while a separate Smartmatic case remained unresolved at the time of her departure.
Neither Fox nor Bartiromo has announced her next professional move.
