Tughlakabad Extension fire incident: CCTV footage reveals conspiracy to set fire, four accused arrested
New Delhi, June 14. Delhi Police has arrested four people in connection with the fire incident in Tughlakabad Extension. Police said that after examining the CCTV, a teenage girl was seen going into the building some time before the incident. According to the police, further investigation led to the identification and arrest of a 17-year-old girl, resident of Navjeevan Camp, Govind Puri.
During interrogation, he told that Sarita (27), resident of Girinagar, Govind Puri, had given him petrol and matchsticks. He told that Sarita had instigated him to set fire to the scooter of Deepak, who lived on the fifth floor of the building, over a money dispute. After this the police arrested Sarita.
According to police, Sarita told that this plan was hatched by Niranjan (33) and his brother Rajkumar (27), residents of Navjeevan Camp, Govind Puri, who allegedly wanted to take some personal revenge. Delhi Police said that the fire was deliberately set. The minor girl and the three accused have been arrested in this case.
Based on the new information, the police have also invoked additional sections of the Indian Justice Code, including sections 61 (criminal conspiracy), 105 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder), 110 (attempt to commit culpable homicide not amounting to murder), 326(G) (causing hurt by fire) and 331(4) (trespassing at night). Further investigation of the matter is going on.
It is noteworthy that on June 12, at around 2:24 am, a fire broke out in building number RZ-171/1 located in street number one of Tughlakabad Extension. The fire had engulfed the entire five-storey building. Those injured in this incident were taken to the Trauma Center of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) and Safdarjung Hospital. Three victims, Pankaj Pandey, Sushila Devi and Sonia Kumari, later died. Police had initially registered a case under sections 287 and 106(1) of the Indian Justice Code (BNS), considering the incident to be a case of negligence.
