Twisha Sharma case: Husband Samarth Singh’s bar license suspended after arrest, did not cooperate in investigation!

Bhopal: The Bar Council of India i.e. BCI on Friday, 22 May 2026, suspended the bar license of Twisha Sharma’s husband Samarth Singh with immediate effect. The council says that the allegations against Samarth are very serious. These allegations affect the dignity and public image of the legal profession.

Accusation of not cooperating in investigation   

According to media reports, BCI said in its statement that Samarth is not cooperating in the investigation. An FIR has been registered against him for dowry death, cruelty and other crimes. BCI President Manan Kumar Mishra said that Mr. Samarth Singh, Advocate, is suspended from practicing law with immediate effect till further action.

Arrest made from Jabalpur court   

This action took place when the police detained Samarth from the Jabalpur district court premises. Samarth had reached the court to surrender. His lawyer had told the Madhya Pradesh High Court that he was ready to surrender and would withdraw his anticipatory bail plea.

Was absconding since May 12   

Actually, Samarth Singh, a lawyer by profession, was absconding since May 12. Twisha died the same day. There is a possibility that he will be handed over to Bhopal Police. Let us tell you that Samarth’s mother Giribala Singh is a retired judge and is currently the President of Bhopal Consumer Court.

Order for second post mortem   

In the hearing held last Friday, Madhya Pradesh High Court ordered a second autopsy on the petition of Twisha’s family. This post-mortem will be done by the team of doctors of Delhi AIIMS. The court made it clear that the post-mortem will be conducted in Bhopal only. For this, special aircraft will be used to bring doctors from Delhi. Delhi AIIMS has said that it is waiting for the full order of the court. The team will be formed only after receiving the order.

The family said ‘the fight for justice will continue’   

It is noteworthy that Twisha’s family has welcomed the decision of the High Court. The family said they will continue to fight to get justice for 33-year-old Twisha. Twisha’s brother Major Harshit Sharma told the media that from the beginning we were fighting for fair investigation and justice. This is the fight of all of us. Of Twisha’s friends, of the people associated with her, of all of us.
