Twisha Sharma case: Major action against accused husband Samarth Singh, BCI suspends advocacy license

BCI Action: A big update has come out regarding the Twisha Sharma death case which was in discussion in the country. The Bar Council of India (BCI) has suspended the advocacy license of the accused husband Samarth Singh, who is an advocate by profession, with immediate effect. According to the order, during the suspension period, they will neither be able to appear in any court, tribunal or any other authority/forum nor will they be able to do any kind of advocacy. Along with this, they will also not be allowed to practice law, file Vakalatnama or present themselves as advocates.

In the letter issued by the Chairman of the Bar Council of India, it has been mentioned that this case is related to the death of Twisha Sharma in the marital home in Bhopal within a few months of the marriage, in which an FIR has been registered under dowry death, cruelty and other serious charges. It has also been said in the letter that allegations against Samarth Singh of not cooperating in the investigation and absconding have also come to light.

Order of suspension from advocacy till further action

The letter further states that the allegations made are of very serious nature and affect the dignity, discipline and public trust of the advocacy profession. In such a situation, immediate interim action was considered necessary to maintain the sanctity of the legal profession and people’s faith in the justice system.

It has been clarified in the order that Samarth Singh will be suspended from practicing law till further action. It has also been said that this matter will be further placed before the appropriate disciplinary committee or competent body, where further decision will be taken after giving them an opportunity of being heard.
