After which it is believed that CBI may soon arrest Giribala Singh.

What has happened in the case so far?

Hearing on 2 petitions

Two separate petitions were filed before the High Court in the matter. The first petition was filed on behalf of Madhya Pradesh government and CBI, while the second was filed on behalf of Navnidhi Sharma, father of deceased Twisha Sharma. In both the petitions, it was demanded that the anticipatory bail granted to Giribala Singh by the 10th Additional Sessions Court of Bhopal should be cancelled.

At the beginning of the hearing, CBI presented an application to make itself a party. CBI told the court that the state government has handed over the investigation of the case to Delhi Special Police Establishment i.e. CBI and a new FIR has also been registered on 25 May 2026.

Giribala’s application for anticipatory bail

Twisha Sharma was married to Samarth Singh on 9 December 2025 as per Hindu rituals but just a few months after the marriage, she died under suspicious circumstances on 12 May 2026. Police records stated that Twisha’s body was found hanging. After this the body was sent to AIIMS Bhopal, after investigation an FIR was registered. Meanwhile, accused mother-in-law Giribala Singh had filed an application for anticipatory bail, which was accepted by the trial court. Petitions were filed in the High Court challenging this order.

WhatsApp chats and statements of witnesses

CBI and the state government told the court that when Twisha became pregnant after marriage, her husband and mother-in-law raised doubts about her character. WhatsApp chats revealed in the investigation indicate pressure to get an abortion. It was also told that Twisha had informed her parents about the torture at her in-laws’ house several times. Before her death, she had called her mother and told her that her husband was shouting at her.

Injuries revealed in post mortem report

The post mortem report revealed that apart from hanging, six injury marks were found on the body. The query report of AIIMS Bhopal also said that these injuries did not occur during lowering of the body. Investigating agencies alleged that CCTV footage was tampered with and selected clips were leaked on social media. Apart from this, it was also said that cooperation was not given in the investigation and despite the notice being issued, Giribala Singh did not appear for questioning.

High Court expressed displeasure over the trial court’s comments

The High Court said in its judgment that the trial court granted relief only on the basis that the complaints were mainly against the husband. The court said that important evidence like WhatsApp chats, statements of witnesses and post-mortem report were not properly analyzed. Besides, it was also ignored that the deceased died just a few months after the marriage. The High Court accepted that considering the seriousness of the case, it was not appropriate to grant anticipatory bail.

Who is the mastermind?

However, it has not been decided yet whether it was murder? Although suspicion is on both Twisha Sharma’s mother-in-law Giribala and husband Samarth, the allegations have not been proved yet. Whereas Twisha had already accused both of them of harassing her. At present Giribala and Samarth Singh are being interrogated.
