Patna: Boat sinks in Ganga, three dead, local diver saves 7 lives, 4 people still missing
Patna, Bihar: A tragic accident took place in the Ganga river in Barh sub-division of Patna on Thursday morning. There was chaos when a boat capsized in the middle of the stream near Umanath area. According to the report of Dainik Bhaskar, 3 people died due to drowning in the accident, while 4 people are still missing. Seven people have been rescued safely.

The deceased have been identified as Neelam Kumari (30), Shravan Mahato (36) and Kashi Kumar (15). Shravan and Kashi were father and son. Many people including Rahul Kumar, Mamta Devi, Kabutari Kumari have been injured in the accident. All the people are said to be residents of Masumganj Bind Toli of Barh police station area. According to the information, at around 5:45 in the morning, 14 people had gone to Sultanpur Diara in Samastipur by boat. While returning from there after completing farming and vegetable work, the boat went out of control and overturned due to strong wind and more passengers than its capacity.
Eyewitnesses said that the boat started wavering as soon as it reached the stream and sank into the water within a few seconds. Many people were swept away in the river due to the strong current. Hearing the screams, the sailors present nearby and the local divers immediately jumped into the river and saved the lives of 7 people. As soon as information about the incident was received, the SDRF team reached the spot and started searching for the missing people. Initial investigation has also revealed lack of security arrangements on the boat.
