The accident happened on Saturday night at around 10 pm on Balram Merchant Road near Kabutarkhana in Jai Ambe Chowk, Bhuleshwar.
Mumbai Two people were killed and five others, including two children, were injured when a huge statue of Lord Ganesha, which was being taken for installation, collapsed in South Mumbai. Local officials gave this information. According to officials, the accident took place on Balram Merchant Road near Kabutarkhana in Jai Ambe Chowk, Bhuleshwar on Saturday night at around 10 pm. A local official said that the statue was being taken to Bhuleshwar when suddenly it fell. The people injured in the accident were immediately taken to nearby hospitals, where two people died during treatment.
As soon as information about the incident was received, the fire department, police, ambulance service and local ward staff reached the spot and started relief and rescue operations. The officer said that the deceased have been identified as Sanket Navashe (33) and Brijesh Hemant Joshi (30). According to officials, the injured include Vaibhav Ghenand (38), Pawan Chaurasia (25), Lavanya Ganer (five), Divya Ganer (seven) and Kunal Kashid (26). All are being treated and their condition is said to be stable.
The ten-day Ganeshotsav will start from September 14 this year. It is one of the biggest annual festivals celebrated in Mumbai and other parts of Maharashtra. During the festival, idols of Lord Ganesha are installed in pandals and homes and worshiped. Grand processions are also taken out every year in Mumbai, in which devotees carry idols of Lord Ganesha to various pandals amidst music, drums and presence of a large number of people.
