The Associated Press (AP) cited Russian officials as reporting that Ukraine had launched more than 1,000 drones over Russia, targeting Moscow, in what it described as one of the largest drone attacks ever carried out on the capital.
The attack came as Russia entered the third and final day of parliamentary elections. Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin called it the biggest drone attack ever on the capital. He said the attack damaged an oil refinery and a residential building in Moscow. Two people were killed and 20 injured in the drone attack, according to Moscow Region Governor Andrei Vorobyov. The deceased include a 74-year-old man and a 44-year-old woman.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on social media that the attacks used a variety of missiles and drones, including Ukrainian-made Flamingo and Pelican missiles. He said the targets were oil and logistics facilities. Zelensky said the attacks were aimed at financially damaging Russia’s war machine.
