UN asks Israel to leave southern Lebanon, America has a different stance!

New Delhi: In the emergency meeting of the United Nations (UN) Security Council held on Monday, June 01, 2026, most of the countries unanimously said that Israel should withdraw its troops from Southern Lebanon. Only America’s stance was different. All members also demanded Israel to withdraw its threat to increase attacks on Lebanon.

Meeting called on request of France

According to media reports, this meeting was held at the request of France. The situation in Lebanon is very bad. Thousands of people are running away from their homes. There is no space left in refugee camps. There is an atmosphere of fear everywhere. Israel had threatened to attack the southern areas of Beirut soon. Just a day before, the Israeli army had penetrated deeper into southern Lebanon. This deepened the fear of increasing military occupation.

However, after President Trump’s intervention the tension subsided. Trump said that he had stopped Israel from attacking Lebanon. Hezbollah has also been asked not to attack Israel. Hezbollah attacked Israel in early March in support of Iran. Since then Israel has been continuously attacking Lebanon to eliminate Hezbollah. The Lebanese government is talking directly to Israel, but it has no control over Hezbollah.

Impact on Iran-America peace talks

Iran has made it clear that if Israel continues attacks on Beirut, it will stop peace talks with America. One of the conditions of Iran is that fighting should stop on all fronts including Lebanon. On Sunday, Israeli forces captured the Beaufort Fortress in southern Lebanon. This is the same fort that was Israel’s headquarters during its occupation of Lebanon from 1982 to 2000. The hoisting of the Israeli flag there sparked anger in Lebanon and other countries.

United Nations said it was a violation of sovereignty

Senior UN official Martha Ama Akya Pobi said Israel’s presence north of the Blue Line is a flagrant violation of Lebanon’s sovereignty. This enmity is spreading in the entire area. The Blue Line is the border that separates Israel from Lebanon and the Golan Heights.

France, Britain, Russia and China strongly criticized Israel in the Security Council. French Ambassador Jerome Bonafont said that Israel is making a big strategic mistake in Lebanon. There is a right to be defended against attacks by Hezbollah, but the current military action cannot be justified. Britain’s Deputy Ambassador James Kariuki said that Israel’s reckless actions will increase the hardships of Lebanese citizens.

Israel held Hezbollah responsible

Israeli Ambassador Danny Danon said that Israel does not want to escalate tensions nor occupy Lebanese land. According to him, the problem is Hezbollah, which attacked Israel in March in support of Iran. He said Hezbollah attacks have increased in recent weeks.

Many countries including Bahrain, Pakistan, Denmark, Liberia and Colombia asked Israel to immediately reduce tensions. Lebanese Ambassador Ahmed Arafa appealed to the Security Council to unite in condemning Israel. He said the council had repeatedly failed to stop the attacks, giving Israel a free hand.
