Bathinda- The second General House meeting of the second term of Bathinda Municipal Corporation Mayor Padamjit Singh Mehta was held today under the chairmanship of Mayor Padamjit Singh Mehta and in the presence of Municipal Corporation Commissioner Madam Lavjit Kalsi. During the meeting, many important agendas related to the development of the city were discussed in detail and development works worth about Rs 100 crore were unanimously approved.
Giving information after the meeting, Mayor Padamjit Singh Mehta said that Bathinda is a historical and major city of Malwa region, whereas a large number of people of Punjabi community live in the Canadian city of Surrey. Keeping this in mind, the General House has unanimously approved the proposal to enter into a Sister City Agreement between Bathinda and Surrey with the aim of promoting mutual brotherhood, cultural exchange, trade, education and urban development.
He said that through this agreement, urban planning and technical cooperation between the two cities will be promoted. In this, special attention will be given to sharing experiences and technologies related to waste management, water supply, sewage management and smart city technology. Apart from this, cultural and educational exchanges will also be promoted through mutual visits of students, teachers, artists and youth.
The Mayor said that work will also be done to promote local industries, agro-based businesses and new investment opportunities through sister city relationships. With this, the connection of NRI families living in Canada with their ancestral city Bathinda will be further strengthened. He said that this initiative can prove to be an important step towards connecting Bathinda with new opportunities at the international level. Mr. Mehta said that in the General House meeting, the agenda for setting up RO water plants in Guru Nanak Nagar, Hardev Nagar and Khadar Bhandar Gali has been passed. Along with this, it has been decided to replace the old machinery of STP. New disposals will be installed in Mehna Basti and Udham Singh Nagar, which will help in improving sewage management in the respective areas.
He said that sports arenas will be built at different places in the city. Children's play equipment will be installed in the city parks and open air gyms will be built in the parks. Apart from this, the agenda of building a clock tower and a new park on Sivian Road was also approved.
Mayor Mr. Mehta said that the House has also approved the agenda of building a welcome gate near Haji Ratan Chowk and an entry gate in Teacher Colony. Similarly, a convenience center will be built in Janata Nagar. He said that rainwater harvesting system will be installed in Veer Colony and about 10 rainwater recharge points will be made in the city. He said that the Municipal Corporation will work systematically in this direction in future also so that groundwater can be conserved and rain water can be recharged in the ground.
The Mayor said that for the first time, sewerage and water supply pipeline projects will be started in Dhobiana Basti and Rani Bagh. He said that connecting the areas which have been feeling the need of basic facilities for a long time, with the mainstream of development is one of the priorities of the Municipal Corporation.
Along with this, the House also approved several other infrastructure projects including beautification of various roads of the city, construction of new roads, premix work, interlocking tiles, sewage and water supply.
Mayor Padamjit Singh Mehta said that the objective of the Municipal Corporation is not only to build roads and streets, but also to develop Bathinda as a modern, beautiful, clean and facilities-equipped city. Under this thinking, many proposals related to water, sewage, roads, parks, sports, environment, saving rain water and urban facilities have been brought in the General House.
He said that with the cooperation of all the members of the House, getting unanimous approval of the development agenda worth about Rs 100 crore is an important step for the development of the city. Efforts will be made to progress the project approved by the Municipal Corporation and complete it on time as per the prescribed process.
During the meeting, councilors also gave suggestions regarding development works related to their respective wards. The Mayor said that development work will be done in every ward of the city as per the need and the work of equipping Bathinda with modern facilities will continue.
