Lucknow: The Yogi government of Uttar Pradesh has given a big relief to crores of electricity consumers of the state amidst the scorching heat. On the instructions of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the Energy Department has decided that now the connection of small consumers will not be disconnected immediately if their bill is outstanding or the balance is negative. This step of the government is going to provide great relief especially to the rural and middle class families.

1 kilowatt people got 30 days extension

State Energy Minister Arvind Kumar Sharma shared information about this important decision. He said that for domestic consumers who have electricity connections up to 1 KW, their electricity will not be cut for 30 days even if their balance is negative (minus). The Energy Minister has issued strict instructions to the officials in this regard. The purpose of this 30-day moratorium is to give sufficient time to poor consumers to make payment.

5 SMS will come before disconnecting the connection

For consumer convenience and transparency, the government has launched a new ‘5-tier SMS notification system’. Now the electricity department will not be able to disconnect the connection arbitrarily. Before disconnecting the connection, 5 mandatory SMS alerts will be sent to the consumer’s mobile. This will give consumers a chance to pay their bills on time. Apart from this, relief has also been given to consumers of 2 kW. If their balance goes to minus Rs 200, their electricity will not be disconnected. The rule of 5 SMS will be applicable for these also.

Strong preparations to deal with the heat

In view of the scorching heat, the Energy Minister has instructed the officials of the Electricity Department to speed up the maintenance works. He said that to strengthen the power system of the state, about 30 lakh new electric poles have been installed so far and the capacity of transformers has also been increased. The Energy Minister claimed that Uttar Pradesh has today become the state with the highest electricity supply in the country. The government has resolved that uninterrupted and better quality electricity will be provided to the public this summer.
