UP sprinter Nipam hoisted the tricolor in Hong Kong, won bronze in 100 meters

Uttar Pradesh’s sprinter Nipam has made a memorable debut in the international circuit. Nipam has won the bronze medal on the first day (28 May) of the Under-20 Asian Athletics Championship being held in Hong Kong. He took a time of 11.62 seconds in the 100 meter race. After a slow start, 18-year-old Nipam picked up the pace and finished third.

 

Nipam also holds the under-20 women’s 100 meter national record. He had made this record by timing 11.53 seconds during a domestic competition in April this year. After finishing third, Nipam said, ‘I am very happy to win the bronze medal for the team.’

 

Nipam is also a member of the national 4x100m relay team and is confident of winning another medal. Qatar’s 16-year-old Dana Noor Salem won gold with a timing of 11.47 seconds, while China’s 16-year-old Xinsuan Chen won silver with a timing of 11.54 seconds.

Vikas Kumar missed the medal

India’s Vikas Kumar missed out on winning a medal. He finished fourth in the men’s 3,000 meters race. He clocked eight minutes 24.88 seconds, which is his personal best performance. India’s Neeru Pathak easily won the women’s 400m heats (preliminary race) with a timing of 54.42 seconds. Tahura Khatun finished second in her heat with a timing of 55.06 seconds. Both players have qualified for the final. However, Mohammad Ashfaq’s day was not good.

The Kerala athlete finished fifth in the men’s 400m semi-finals with a timing of 47.06 seconds and failed to make the final. In the men’s long shot put event, India’s Ashuvendra Pratap Singh (64.34m) and Aman (63.40m) finished seventh and eighth respectively.

Medal in Decathlon is not far away

There is a strong possibility of India winning a medal in decathlon. Rahul Jakhar’s performance was excellent on the first day of this tough competition of ten events lasting two days. Rahul scored 929 points in the 100 meter race by timing 10.70 seconds, after which he scored 760 points in the long jump with a jump of 6.77 meters.

 

After this, he registered a best throw of 13.04 meters in the shot put to get 670 points and then added 740 points to his total points with an effort of 1.93 meters in the high jump. In the last event of the day, 400 meter race, he scored 803 more points by clocking 50.25 seconds.
