Lucknow. In the 8th match of UP T-20 League Season-4 played at Ekana Stadium on Wednesday, Meerut Mavericks captain Rinku Singh once again proved that he did not get the title of number-1 finisher just like that.
Amidst the heavy pressure of rain and Duckworth-Lewis (DLS) par score, Rinku batted stormily and snatched the victory from the hands of Lucknow Falcons captained by Bhuvneshwar Kumar and gave Meerut a memorable victory by 5 runs.
Lucknow made a strong score of 183 runs
Lucknow Falcons, who elected to bat first after winning the toss, scored a challenging score of 183/6 in 20 overs. Opener Mohammad Saif scored 45 runs in 32 balls, while Ajit Verma played a brilliant inning of 53 runs in 37 balls with the help of 8 fours and 1 six. Satyam Pandey and Vapraj Nigam also made useful contributions in the last overs. For Meerut, Zeeshan Ansari and Vijay Kumar took 2-2 wickets.
3 wickets for 22, then Rinku's storm
Meerut had a very bad start while chasing the target of 184 runs. In 16.3 overs, Meerut DLS was 1 run behind the par score, but Rinku took the team ahead by hitting a skyscraper six on the very next ball. After this, in the 17th over, Rinku scored 26 runs in just 5 balls on the balls of Navneet Kumar.
When play was stopped due to heavy rain in 16.5 overs, Meerut's score was 154/6—exactly 5 runs more than the DLS par score. The match could not be restarted after rain and Meerut was declared the winner by 5 runs. Rinku Singh remained unbeaten after scoring 55 runs in 24 balls.
