Upcoming Nissan SUVs: Mid-Size Tekton To Range Topping Patrol

Nissan recently revised its brand strategy for India and, as part of the new changes, the brand is planning to bring new models to our market. Some of these are brand-new products, while others are already available in other markets. The brand already launched the Gravite BMPV in the market and is now working on launching a bunch of new SUVs. Here we have a list of such SUVs that Nissan plans to launch in India.

The Nissan Tekton will be the first one to be launched. It is a mid-size SUV that is based on the Renault Duster. The SUV will be officially launched in July, and we already have an idea of what it will offer in terms of design and features.

The Tekton is based on the same platform as the Duster. However, the exterior design of the SUV will be inspired by the Nissan Patrol. The brand has already released official teaser images, and the launch is scheduled to happen in early July.

The Tekton SUV will offer the same set of features as the Duster, such as automatic climate control, ventilated seats, electric seats, a digital driver display, a driver-centric touchscreen infotainment system, a panoramic sunroof, leatherette upholstery, and so on. It will be offered with a 1.0-litre turbo-petrol and a 1.3-litre turbo-petrol engine option. The smaller engine would come with a manual transmission, while the bigger engine would come with manual and DCT gearbox options.

Nissan will also launch a strong-hybrid version of the Tekton in the market. This version is expected to be launched in early 2027. The SUV is available with a 1.8-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine that generates around 160 PS. This engine is paired with a 1.4 kWh battery pack that would offer good fuel efficiency. This is also the same technology that will be offered in the Duster. The hybrid tech is claimed to be so efficient that the vehicle can be used in EV mode 80 percent of the time when driven in the city.

Nissan, as we already know, has a tie-up with Renault, and it is likely to follow the same path as Renault. Renault is currently working on a 7-seater version of the Duster based on the Boreal SUV. Once Renault launches the 7-seater SUV, a Nissan version of the same is also expected to come to the market. We expect the SUV to come with the same Baby Patrol-like exterior design, with a slightly longer wheelbase and overall dimensions. The SUV is expected to come with a 1.3-litre turbo-petrol engine with manual and DCT gearbox options. The smaller 1.0-litre turbo engine is unlikely to be offered, as it may feel underpowered.

Just like the Tekton, a strong-hybrid version of the Tekton 7-seater is also expected to come to the market. This SUV will get all the features of the regular turbo-petrol version. The major difference would be the engine. It would use the same 1.8-litre naturally aspirated strong-hybrid petrol engine seen in the Duster and Tekton.

Renault unveiled the Bridger concept a few months ago. The brand currently plans to launch the Bridger SUV next year. Once Renault launches the Bridger in the market, a Nissan version of the Bridger will also be launched. It will use the same platform as the Bridger and will be made in India too. Both these SUVs are expected to remain mechanically identical, but the exterior design will be different. Initially, we will get Nissan’s Bridger SUV with naturally aspirated petrol and turbo-petrol engine options.

Once Nissan launches the regular version of the Bridger SUV, it would also start working on other versions. This is possible because the Bridger is being developed as a true multi-energy vehicle. This means that the upcoming SUV will be offered with petrol, hybrid, and EV powertrains. The hybrid version is expected to use a 1.2-litre petrol unit, and an EV version of the same SUV would also come to the market at a later stage.

The Nissan Patrol is already a favourite among celebrities in India. These are private imports, as Nissan doesn’t officially offer this SUV in India yet. Nissan resumed its CBU business a couple of years ago when it brought in the X-Trail. It looks like Nissan, as part of its new strategy, will bring the new Patrol to India.

The Patrol is available with a 3.8-litre naturally aspirated V6 engine and a 3.5-litre twin-turbo V6 petrol engine. It remains to be seen which variant we will get in India. This is going to be the flagship model for Nissan and would compete with the likes of the LC300 from Toyota.
