Uproar over murder of girl in Ghazipur, stone pelting on SP delegation; Congress said- there should be a CBI investigation
Bureau Prayagraj- There has been an uproar over the death of a 16 year old girl in Ghazipur, UP. In this case, when the Samajwadi Party delegation reached the village to meet the victim’s family, a group stopped them and pelted stones. Many leaders were injured in this. Here, Congress has also held a press conference and demanded that investigation should be conducted by a special CBI team under the supervision of Allahabad High Court judge. The party has said that the Congress delegation will visit the victim’s family.
The body of a 16-year-old girl was found in the Ganga river on April 15 in Kataria village of Ghazipur. Police initially ruled it a case of suicide or drowning, but the family alleged rape and murder. The victim’s father lodged a report in the police station. The police investigated and arrested one of the accused, Hariom Pandey, and sent him to jail. A case was also registered against the second accused. The family says that the police initially pressurized them to change the statement. There is tension in the village after the incident. Caste comments were also made on social media, which further worsened the atmosphere.
A delegation of Samajwadi Party reached Kataria village on Wednesday to meet the victim’s family. This included former minister Ram Asare Vishwakarma, SP MLA from Jangipur Dr. Virendra Yadav, Reena Yadav and Bindubala Bind. A group did not allow them to enter the village. SP workers sat on strike there. The two sides initially started talking, which gradually turned into a fight. Then stone pelting took place. In this, former minister Ram Asare Vishwakarma suffered serious head injury. He has been admitted to the hospital. Other SP leaders also suffered injuries. The police tried to control the situation.
Earlier on April 20, SP had organized a big demonstration in Ghazipur. There was a protest in Sarju Pandey Park. The activists demanded that a case be registered against the killers under the POCSO Act, a viscera examination should be conducted, and the victim’s family should be provided security and financial assistance. He also demanded that the Karanda police station incharge be dismissed. After the demonstration, a memorandum was submitted to the District Magistrate and Superintendent of Police.
Congress held a press conference and targeted the government on this matter. Congress said that the daughter of Vishwakarma community was raped and murdered. When the father wrote the report, pressure was put on him to change his statement. When the people of the society went to the village of the accused, there was a scuffle with them. Congress alleged that Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath calls Dalits and backward classes as his brothers during the elections, but forgets everyone after the elections. Congress demanded that a special CBI team should be formed under the supervision of Allahabad High Court judge, the investigation report should be submitted within 30 days and the culprits should be given strict punishment.
