An Indian software engineer has been arrested in America for the murder of his wife. Police allege that he strangled his wife to death and the next day sent the picture of her dead body to his girlfriend living in India.

The accused has been arrested after a long and detailed investigation that lasted for about 9 months. He is currently in police custody and a huge amount of 5 million dollars (about Rs 47 crore) has been fixed for his bail. If his guilt is proved in the court, he may be sentenced to life imprisonment.

The accused has been identified as 30-year-old Avinash Narne, who is originally from Telangana and works as a software engineer in America. Avinash married 27-year-old Rajita Sabbineni on June 5, 2025.

Wife’s dead body found just 5 months after marriage

On October 27, 2025, Avinash himself called the police and told that his wife had locked herself inside the bathroom and was not opening the door. When the police reached the spot and broke the door, Rajita’s body was lying inside. To mislead the police, Avinash fabricated a story that he had gone out of the house for about 40 minutes and when he returned, he found his wife’s room locked from inside.

However, when the police examined the digital data of the apartment’s ‘smart lock’ and security system, the truth came to light. It was clear from the data that no other person had come inside the flat while Avinash was outside. After this, the police completely rejected the possibility of the murder being committed by an outsider.

The post mortem report also made it clear that Rajita died due to suffocation due to strangulation. After this, the police considered it a complete case of murder and proceeded with the investigation.

Avinash remained connected with his girlfriend even after marriage

The police investigation revealed the heart-wrenching truth that Avinash was having an affair with a woman in India for the last several years. Meanwhile, he had an arranged marriage with Rajita. According to the police, his girlfriend had also attended his marriage and even after marriage, both were in constant touch with each other.

Even on the day of the murder, Avinash had talked to his girlfriend at least four times. During strict interrogation, he himself confessed that the day after his wife’s death, he had sent the picture of Rajita’s dead body to his girlfriend.

Secret revealed through chat

During the investigation, the police recovered WhatsApp chats and messages between Rajita and Avinash. These messages revealed that Rajita often complained that the drinks made by her husband tasted very bitter.

Even on the day of her death, Rajita had messaged Avinash that the ‘smoothie’ made by her husband tasted like bitter medicine or cough syrup. At the same time, when the police reached home on the day of the incident, Avinash had claimed that his wife was not well and perhaps she fell in the bathroom due to dizziness after drinking cough syrup.

After Rajita’s death, the police spent several months collecting digital records, call details and other concrete evidence. Ultimately, in July 2026, Avinash was again rigorously interrogated and he was arrested on charges of premeditated murder.
