According to an affidavit seen by the Daily Mail, David Vander Meer went hiking with Bernadette Vander Meer in Zion National Park on August 22, 2006, to celebrate their anniversary. During this time, Vander Meer told investigators that he had set up the camera to take photographs of his wife Bernadette. The sun was rising behind it. During this time, as soon as he removed his backpack from the shot, he heard his wife scream as she fell approximately 5,700 feet. According to the affidavit, David Vander Meer and his wife Bernadette Vander Meer had increased the amount of their life insurance policy from $150,000 to $600,000 20 years ago.

Parents did not believe in daughter’s death

In this situation, 49 year old David Vander Meer has been accused of murder and insurance fraud. This case comes 20 years after the death of his wife Bernadette, who died after falling from Angels Landing in Zion National Park. Bernadette Vander Meer’s mother, Laura Gudenkauf, told the Las Vegas Review-Journal about losing her daughter that she thought the shock would kill her. Richard Gudenkauf, Bernadette Vander Meer’s father, claimed that he always doubted the story of her death. He clearly said that he had done a lot of hiking with her. She was as agile as a mountain goat. His falling off a cliff? No, this cannot happen.

Daughter was preparing to leave her husband

According to Bernadette’s mother, she was preparing to leave her. Laura told the news outlet that she told him that if he didn’t change, she would divorce him because he spent all his time with another woman.
