In America's Martha's Vineyard, a state trooper's friend sexually assaulted a young woman inside a police barrack. Sources involved in the investigation told CBS News that the incident occurred in late August when a trooper working on that posh island during the summer allowed a male friend of his to spend the night at the barracks in Oak Bluffs. Sources claim that in the evening a young woman was seen running away from that friend and running down the street in half-clothes. It is alleged that this young man first caught the girl and then forced herself on her. Meanwhile, taking advantage of the opportunity, the victim girl ran away from there with half-finished clothes.
It is said that after this the unknown girl told the driver passing by the road that she had been sexually assaulted. He helped on this. Meanwhile, Oak Bluffs Police Chief Jonathan Searle confirmed that officers responded to a report from a woman in distress about an alleged sexual assault that took place at the State Police barracks.
He said in a statement that the Oak Bluffs Police Department is a separate and independent law enforcement agency from the Massachusetts State Police and has conducted this investigation from the beginning independently and in accordance with the department's established policies and procedures. The police chief said the Massachusetts State Police had no role in the Oak Bluffs Police Department investigation. A woman was allegedly sexually assaulted inside a Massachusetts police barracks in Oak Bluffs late last month.
Search warrant received from court
Jonathan Searle said that as part of the investigation, Oak Bluffs police have obtained search warrants from the court, including a warrant to search the barracks. The police chief said the police department is also in contact with the Cape and Islands District Attorney's Office regarding the investigation. The Oak Bluffs Police Department takes allegations of sexual assault very seriously.
The department is conducting an internal investigation
In a separate statement, Massachusetts State Police said the two people involved in the alleged sexual assault are not connected to the department as the department conducts its own internal investigation. A spokesperson for the department said that we are fully cooperating with the local police investigation in this matter and are committed to providing justice in every case of sexual harassment.
