According to reports, Vice President JD Vance arrived at Amen Air Base near Lucerne on Sunday with his wife, ‘Second Lady’ Usha Vance, just before 6 am local time. They will help formally begin talks with Iranian leaders to advance a weak interim deal aimed at curbing Tehran’s nuclear program and ending the war in Iran.

It is noteworthy that the framework related to these issues was signed last week. Now the top negotiating officials of America and Iran are trying to reach an agreement within 60 days on those technical details, which can have a huge impact on the world economy and global security. But the initial days of this two-month period were difficult. The reason for this was the fierce firing in Lebanon between Israel and the extremist group Hezbollah supported by Iran.

Iran’s military has announced that it has closed the Strait of Hormuz. It is an important sea route through which one-fifth of the world’s total trade in oil and natural gas passes.

Vance was originally scheduled to be at the picturesque Bergenstock resort near Lucerne on Friday, but his departure from the US was delayed after fighting escalated in Lebanon and Iranian officials canceled plans to attend talks.
