Uttarakhand: 3 elections, zero number, where is UKKD in the BJP-Congress fight?

At least 46 political parties contest elections on 70 assembly seats of Uttarakhand. Only two parties dominate, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Congress. After the year 2017, the equations were completely in favor of the Bharatiya Janata Party, but even before that there was a political fight between the two main parties.

Apart from the Bharatiya Janata Party and Congress, there are Bahujan Samaj Party, Aam Aadmi Party, Azad Samaj Party (Kanshi Ram), Uttarakhand Jan Ekta Party, Samajwadi Party, Bahujan Samaj Party, Communist Party of India, Uttarakhand Parivartan Dal, Uttarakhand Parivartan Party and Uttarakhand Kranti Dal. These days, the politics of Uttarakhand Kranti Dal is quite different from other parties.

How is Uttarakhand Kranti Dal standing in front of BJP-Congress?

BJP emphasizes on development, Hindutva and tourism in Uttarakhand. Congress emphasizes on Uttarakhand's environment, minority interests and stopping migration. The demands and agenda of Uttarakhand Kranti Dal are different from all others. UKKD talks about the rights of the hill people. The party has written on its website that the most important demand is to give 100 percent priority in employment and resources to the natives.

 

Uttarakhand Kranti Dal demands that Gairsain situated in Chamoli district should be made the permanent capital, so that migration can be stopped and effective policy can be prepared. Now it has been declared the summer capital. UKD believes that unless these issues are resolved, the state will not develop. This party talks about the identity of Uttarakhand and the preservation of its culture, tradition and natural resources. The party wants a socialist system, where development reaches every class.

Both BJP and Congress are national parties. Uttarakhand Kranti Dal is a local party. There are many big names in the party but their popularity is also limited. Due to limited resources and budget, the party is not able to campaign the way big parties do. The party raises local issues well but the public has less trust in it.
