The Uttarakhand government has sealed a total of 20 unrecognized madrasas across the state, continuing its efforts to enforce prescribed recognition and academic standards in minority educational institutions.
Parag Madhukar Dhakate, Special Secretary of the Minority Welfare Department, stated that three madrasas in Dehradun were recently targeted. Madrasa Jamia-Tus-Salam Al-Islamia in Azad Colony was sealed, while the managements of Madrasa Dar-e-Arqam in Azad Colony, Majra, and Madrasa Darul Uloom Rahimia submitted written undertakings confirming they had ceased operations.
Dhakate confirmed, “So far, 17 madrasas have been sealed across the state, while the managements of three other institutions have submitted written confirmation of discontinuing operations. With this, operations of a total of 20 unrecognized madrasas have been discontinued in the state.”
Similar action was taken in Haldwani, Nainital district, where Madrasa Jamia Nooria Barkate Amina on Shani Bazaar Road, Gaujajali North, and another unrecognized madrasa in Indira Nagar, Banbhoolpura, were sealed.
Haldwani City Magistrate AB Vajpayee said that the relevant madrasa managements were requested to provide documents regarding recognition. As the required documents were not submitted, sealing was carried out in accordance with the rules.
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has emphasized that no educational institution in the state should operate without meeting prescribed regulations and recognition criteria.
Under the new system implemented in Uttarakhand, the government aims to ensure modern and quality education in minority educational institutions while upholding academic standards.
The Chief Minister stated, “There would be no compromise with the future of children or the quality of education, and action against institutions violating rules would continue as per law.”
