Uttarakhand Police safety measures for Char Dham Yatra

The Uttarakhand Police have instituted multi-layered safety and management arrangements to ensure the secure and smooth movement of pilgrims during the ongoing Char Dham Yatra, the Police Headquarters confirmed on April 26.

Superintendent of Police (Rudraprayag), Niharika Tomar, personally conducted a detailed inspection of the Kedarnath pedestrian route on foot, assessing arrangements from the Kedarnath Base Camp to Gaurikund, including Lincholi, Bhimabali, and Jungle Chatti. Her review encompassed security measures, traffic management, and overall pilgrim convenience.

During the inspection, SP Tomar engaged with police personnel stationed at various points to collect real-time feedback and issued instructions for necessary improvements. She also spoke directly with pilgrims to understand their concerns and suggestions regarding their travel experience, as well as with horse and mule operators to obtain feedback on operational management, route handling, and safety-related issues.

The Superintendent instructed all post in-charges to prioritize pilgrim safety, ensure smooth passage along the route, and strengthen medical and rapid response systems. Police forces were directed to remain vigilant and ready to provide immediate assistance in emergencies. Additional focus was placed on effective crowd management and enhanced surveillance at sensitive locations.

Following directions from Police Headquarters, SP Tomar has been stationed at Kedarnath Dham for the past six days to continuously monitor arrangements. The Uttarakhand Police emphasized that the safety of every pilgrim visiting Kedarnath remains their top priority, with adequate police deployment at all major points along the route to maintain a safe and reassuring environment for visitors from across the country and abroad.

The Char Dham Yatra, regarded as one of India’s most significant religious pilgrimages, formally commenced on Sunday with rituals across multiple shrines. The annual pilgrimage to Kedarnath Temple began with the ceremonial departure of the Panchmukhi palanquin of Lord Kedarnath from its winter seat at Omkareshwar Temple.
