Uttarakhand News: Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami met Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare and Rural Development Shivraj Singh Chauhan in New Delhi and discussed the construction of roads and approval of proposals under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) in Uttarakhand.
The Chief Minister informed the Union Minister that with the aim of connecting rural areas in Uttarakhand with road facilities, proposals for 315 roads have been sent to the Central Government under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana. The construction of these roads will help in connecting 610 settlements of the state with road connectivity. This will ease transportation in remote and rural areas and will also facilitate local residents to access education, health, employment and other essential facilities.
Mountainous geography and road needs
Chief Minister Dhami requested to approve these proposals as soon as possible and said that road connectivity is an important need for rural development in Uttarakhand, which has mountainous geographical conditions. Expansion of road facilities will give impetus to the development of marginal and remote areas and will also strengthen the rural economy.
Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan assured the Chief Minister that necessary action would be taken to approve the road proposals submitted by Uttarakhand at the earliest.
Concrete steps towards overall development
Expressing gratitude for the cooperation received from the Central Government, the Chief Minister said that the State Government is continuously making efforts to expand basic facilities to the remote and rural areas of the state. Construction of roads under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana will prove important in this direction. This will not only provide better connectivity to the rural population but will also give impetus to the overall development of the state.
