Uttarakhand’s daughters excel in international boxing, CM Dhami honored women boxers of Pithoragarh

Dehradun. The daughters of Devbhoomi are now not only entering the sports field, but are also hoisting the tricolor across the world with their boxing. Three promising boxers from Pithoragarh – Nikita Chand, Kajal Farswan and Aarti Dhariyal have once again brought glory to the state by performing brilliantly on the international stage. On Tuesday, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami met these three women players at his residence and honored them for their achievement.

Actually, this meeting was not just a formality, but it was like confirming the increasing dominance of daughters in the sports scenario of the state. The Chief Minister not only encouraged these medal winning players but also congratulated their coaches, Brijendra Mal and Lalit Kunwar, who were working hard behind the scenes. During this, senior officials of the sports department were also present.

Daughters of Pithoragarh march from Jakarta to Romania

The achievement of these players, who have brought glory to the name of Uttarakhand in the international ring, is truly praiseworthy. Nikita Chand and Kajal Farswan proved their talent in the Under-23 Asian Boxing Championship held from 3 to 15 July 2026 in Jakarta, Indonesia. Nikita Chand, in the 60 kg weight category, won the silver medal with her agility and accurate punches, while in the 65 kg weight category, Kajal Farswan also won the silver medal for the country.

The matter is not limited to Asia only. Aarti Dhariyal captured the gold in the prestigious ‘Gold Belt Boxing Competition’ played in Romania from 12 to 16 July 2026. Aarti, who entered the ring in the 54 kg weight category, defeated her rivals and won the gold medal.

Journey from the path of struggle to the national camp

The story of these three players starts from remote villages of Uttarakhand. Nikita Chand, resident of Badalu village of Pithoragarh, is not a new name. Before this, she had also won gold in the Asian Championships in 2021, 2022 and 2023. Currently, she is honing her art under the supervision of coaches Brijendra Mal and Bhaskar Bhatt.

On the other hand, the journey of Kajal Farswan of Bhadeli village of Munsiyari is no less than an example. Her journey, which started from the women’s residential hostel of the Sports Department, has reached the NBA in Rohtak and now the National Camp in Patiala. Kajal already has many national and international medals in her account. At the same time, Aarti Dhariyal of Gaudihat village has also confirmed her place in the National Women’s Boxing Camp located in Patiala, starting from the Small Khelo India Centre.

On this special occasion, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said that the daughters of the state are continuously setting new records in sports. According to CM Dhami, “The success of Nikita, Kajal and Aarti proves that the daughters of Devbhoomi are not behind in any field. Winning medals at the international level is the result of hard work, right coaching and family support.”

The Chief Minister also reiterated that the state government is continuously working to strengthen the sports infrastructure in the state and provide every necessary resource to the talented players. The government is trying to provide such an environment to the players coming from villages and towns so that they can bring glory to the country in the future.
